Mid-price HD DVD Player and New LCDs Headline Toshiba Intros

Toshiba HD-A20 HD DVD player

January 8, 2007 - It was just last May that Toshiba launched its Regza line of LCD HDTVs. But with sales of LCD panels surging, the company couldn't wait a full year to bring out 13 new Regza models, ranging from 26 to 57 inches, almost all of which will ship this spring rather than the more typical second half of the year. The 52- and 57-inch screens sizes are new for Toshiba.

Six of the new Regzas are 720p models, ranging from 26 to 42-inches, and two (26 and 32 inches, respectively) have built-in DVD players. All will be available this March or April. Toshiba's 1080p Full HD Regzas are the 42HL167, available in March or April, and the 47HL167 and 52HL167, both available in June or July. Its Cinema Series Regza 1080p Full HD lineup comprises the 42LX177, 46LX177, 52LX177, and 57LX177, also available in June or July. Toshiba did not announce prices for any of the new LCDs.

The company did disclose a price of $600 for its latest HD DVD player, however. Available this spring, the HD-A20 is priced between Toshiba's two other second-generation HD DVD players, the HD-A2 and HD-XA2, already in stores.
