LG Launches Seven 4K OLED TVs

LG today announced that seven 4K OLED TVs are now available in stores and online.

With curved and flat screens in 55- and 65-inch sizes, all of the new models are Ultra HD Premium certified and support both high dynamic range (HDR) formats—HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

In explaining the decision to equip the new models with both HDR formats, LG noted that seven major movie studios and key streaming content providers such as Netflix and Amazon Video are “defaulting to Dolby Vision as the preferred HDR format for the home.”

LG also noted that Dolby Vision has a mapping engine that optimizes HDR content for the specifications of a particular TV and said Netflix, Amazon Video, and Vudu have announced aggressive plans to expand their libraries with Dolby Vision-encoded movies. (LG OLED and Super UHD TVs will be able to access Vudu titles in Dolby Vision this summer.) Netflix and Amazon each plan to deliver more than 150 hours of HDR content by the end of the year.

Highlights of the new TVs include 10-bit display panels with 10-bit color processing, support for wide color gamut, and LG’s webOS 3.0 Smart TV platform, which has been updated to include enhanced mobile connectivity.

Model numbers and pricing of the new 4K OLED models is as follows:

• 55-inch OLED55B6P and 65-inch OLED65B6P flat-screen models, $3,999 and $5,999, respectively

I've been eagerly awaiting the release of these TV's hoping for something a little more affordable. I thought that the B6P, without 3D and without the picture on glass would fall into a sweeter price range.LG's website shows the E6P and B6P for the same $5999.
