LG Chooses Netcast Partner

LG has chosen Plex to provide the media platform for its broadband-connected Netcast TVs and Blu-ray players.

"Plex's capabilities offer our customers' additional methods of displaying their content on LG's next-generation TVs, and that is exciting to us," said LG's media director. "Plex enables LG to more easily offer a wide variety of content sources to consumers using the NetCast services," said Plex's CEO.

The platform will mesh with Apple and Android devices, and its nearly plug-ins embrace iTunes, Netflix, CNN, and YouTube. Plex can access more than 100 online video and image sources, according to its website. In computers, it's available free for the Mac and will launch a Windows version later this year.

TV makers have embraced broadband connectivity and apps with a passion in recent years. But they've set their sights on even broader media platforms, of which Plex is one. Another is Google TV, which will make its debut in Sony products later this year.
