Let Me Ride

Having captured the headphone market with the his ubiquitous red-cabled cans, Dr. Dre announced yesterday at the New York International Auto Show that he'd extended his Beats by Dr. Dre line of affordable audiophile products to yet another venue: the automobile, in particular the 2012 Chysler 300S.

Designed by the Chrysler engineering team in collaboration with Dre and Beats partner/American Idol star/Interscope chief/man-for-all-seasons Jimmy Iovine, the 300s' system, according to Chrysler prez Oliver Francois, aims to "revolutionize the expectations for audio quality in an automobile, establishing a new bar in sound that comes closer than ever before to replicating the recording studio sound of professionals."

Even though Dre himself rolls in a six-four, if you pick up a 300s this fall and really want to maximize the recording-studio effect of the Beats in-car system you might try to dig up a copy of Ben Vaughn's Rambler '65, which was recorded in the songwriter's 1965 Rambler.

We're all hoping for Diddy, Gaga, and Bieber vehicles to follow, of course.
