Ken Crane's Says Goodbye

A fixture of consumer electronics retailing in Southern California is closing its doors. Ken Crane's will shutter its six remaining stores and liquidate merchandise within 60 days, having already closed four others in January.

Ken Crane's was founded in 1948 by the man for whom it was named as a retailer of Magnavox TVs. As recently as 2006, the privately owned company was still enjoying growing sales. But 2008 brought staff reductions and now the end is in sight. Casey Crane, son of the founder, attributes the chain's troubles to home foreclosures, tight lending policies, and high unemployment.
