Edward and Connie Sumner seem to have the perfect marriage. But when Connie's chance encounter with a handsome stranger erupts into a full-blown affair, desire becomes obsession, and the true price of betrayal takes a shattering toll.

There aren’t very many erotic thrillers on Blu-ray at the moment so it’s always great to be able to add one to the library. Unfaithful is one of the last films from Adrian Lyne and it rekindled star Diane Lane’s career. The film deals with passion and the price you pay for indiscretions and takes an interesting look at how decisions can be made in the heat of the moment. While not Lyne’s best film, it was still a good addition to the genre.

Lyne’s films always have a bit of a signature look to them. A bit softer than most and slightly raised black levels that give the film a slightly veiled look. Fatal Attraction and Jacob’s Ladder were also the same. This makes fine detail a bit disappointing compared to what we’re used to seeing on Blu-ray but that doesn’t make this a dull presentation. Depth and dimension are still quite strong and I love the moody look of the film. Film grain is a bit hit or miss giving the image a slightly processed look but edge enhancement and ringing are rarely spotted.

The DTS-HD Master Audio mix makes good use of the surround soundstage and has a much more engaging atmosphere than I was expecting for this type of film. Subtle nuance is delivered nicely in both the front and rear soundstage and you really get a nice sense of envelopment. Dialogue is balanced perfectly within the mix and a very natural tone is delivered. Dynamics are pretty subdued but I wasn’t expecting much from a film like this. The score is impressive in its ability to draw you in and keep you there and the fidelity of the mix is excellent.

Extras include a feature commentary with the director along with some scene specific commentaries with some of the actors. An episode of the Charlie Rose show is included along with deleted scenes, a production feature and interviews.

Erotic thrillers like this are rare on Blu-ray and I’m glad to see Fox deliver something more than the latest action flick. The presentation is solid making this an easy recommendation for fans of the film.
