Aspiring playwright Louis Ives moves to New York, taking an environmental job with a beautiful, enfatuating co-worker. Louis rents a room from an eccentric former playwright who moonlights as an "extra man," a social escort for the wealthy widows of Manhattan high society. The two men develop a volatile mentorship, which leads to a series of comic adventures.

The Blu-ray presentation is about par for newer films and features a nicely detailed image with plenty of depth and dimension. Colors maintain a natural quality without much in the way of stylization or noise. The DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack also maintains a great balance throughout with nice subtle ambiance and solid imaging. Dialogue sounds very natural in timbre and balance and the film’s score livens up the film nicely.

Extras include an HDNet feature on the making of the film, a feature commentary with Kline and novelist Ames plus a second commentary with the principal crew including the directors.

I loved the performances here and Kline delivers once again as one of the great character actors of our time. The film is quirky, and a tad strange, but fans of offbeat characters and great performances will probably appreciate it.
