Forty-year-old retail employee Andy Stitzer (Steve Carell) loves sci-fi, comic books, video games, magic, and action figures, but, alas, he's given up on loving women. After he is unable to come up with a convincing tale of sexual conquest for his coworkers, they form a mission: get this geek laid.

The unrated 40-Year-Old Virgin's DVD box claims: "Now Lasts 17 Minutes Longer." As large parts of the film were improvised, certain scenes have been given more room to breathe by director and Freaks and Geeks creator Judd Apatow. Apatow and Carell cowrote Virgin, and together they've given us such turns of phrase as "tackling the gazelle," "Borked," "pursedogs," "the spank bank," "ho runner," and "pulling that number," plus new meanings for "Streisand," "Stevie Wonder," and "I had some Cream of Wheat."

The DVD's audio is in Dolby Digital 5.1 with 1.85:1 anamorphic video. While the disc looks great, there was a noticeable layer change in the middle of dialogue during chapter 14. One hopes that this will be corrected on future pressings.

In terms of special features, this thing is just chock-a-block. There's an entertaining audio commentary with Apatow and nearly the entire cast, a gag reel, "Line-o-Rama," featuring alternate lines from some of the funniest moments, and tons of deleted and extended scenes. This is on top of the aforementioned 17 minutes and "My Dinner With Stormy," in which actor and coproducer Seth Rogen interviews porn star Stormy (who makes an appearance in Andy's guilt-filled fantasies). Truly, this DVD has more bang for your buck.
