Step Up 3D—Touchstone Pictures

Video: 4.5/5
Audio: 4.5/5
Extras: 4.5/5

When a tight-knit group of New York City street dancers are pitted against the best hip hop dancers in the world, it's a high stakes dance battle that'll change their lives forever.

This is another film that was shot with a 3D camera rig from the get go and didn’t use any post processing to achieve its dimensionality. Unfortunately, a lot of the movie does have that cardboard cookie cutter look for its 3D effect. While the extra dimension does add a bit of pizzazz to the dance battles, it feels wasted on the rest of the film. Detail is kept intact though with plenty of fine object detail and rich contrast. The soundtrack is similar to the last film in this series, LOTS of hard bass lines and hip hop. You get exactly what you expect and it amps up the intensity of the dance sequences perfectly.

Disney goes all out with this release and includes a separate Blu-ray for the 2D release, the DVD and a digital copy. You also get some fun extras on the standard Blu-ray that include a look at the dancing, learning the moves, deleted scenes, tons of music videos and more.

For fans of street dancing and amazing choreography, this is a film for you. While I don’t know how much the 3D really added to the film overall, I thought it was an interesting touch for the great dance battles. Fans of the first two films should definitely give this one a look.
