Superstar genetic engineers Clive and Elsa specialize in splicing DNA from different animals to create incredible new hybrids. Now they want to use human DNA in a hybrid that could revolutionize science and medicine. But when the pharmaceutical company that funds their research forbids it, they secretly take their experiment underground - risking their careers to push the boundaries of science and serve their own curiosity and ambition. The result is Dren, who exceeds their wildest dreams - and threatens to become their worst nightmare.

Splice looks pretty solid on Blu-ray and delivers some decent contrast and dynamic range. Darker scenes look pretty polished and lack any noise and shadow detail holds up well. Colors are a bit stylized and slightly oversaturated but add to the look of the film. The CGI sequences do a great job of blending in with the live photography and I didn’t notice anything in terms of compression artifacts. The soundtrack also does a great job with the material and adds a lot of mood and nuance. Subtle surround effects really make the most of the soundstage and the mains deliver plenty of dynamics without crowding the dialogue.

Warner includes both a digital copy and DVD copy of the film with this release. You also get a look on the set of the film with interviews and insight into the production.

While not the sci-fi homerun of the year, Splice still adds some interesting ideas to the mix. I loved the creature effects of this film making it an easy rental recommendation for fans of the genre.
