iHome’s New Bluetooth Speakers Are ‘Weather Tough’

SDI Technologies says its new iHome Weather Tough line of portable Bluetooth speakers is aimed at outdoor enthusiasts who crave music in even the most punishing of environments.

The line comprises the recently launched iBT82 (shown, $50) and iBT35 ($70) and the iBT9 (shown, $100) and iBT37 ($40) due out later this month. All are housed in a rubberized shockproof casing and carry an IP-67 rating, meaning they are designed to keep dust out and can be submerged up to 3 feet.

All models are also equipped with speakerphone functionality with a built-in microphone, echo cancellation, and answer/end controls.

The iBT82 weighs less than a quarter pound and has a battery rated for up to 14 hours of playing time, while the iBT35 weighs just under 3 pounds, has an aux-in jack, and comes with a carabiner clip that doubles as a bottle opener; rated playing time is up to 8 hours.

The iBT37 has a ¼-inch threaded tripod mount, weighs less than half a pound, and has a lithium-ion battery rated for up to 8 hours of playing time. The iBT9 also weighs less than half a pound and is equipped with a 1-amp USB charging port and two full-range speakers plus a passive radiator to boost bass response; its lithium-ion battery is rated for up to 12 hours of playing time.

All models are available direct from iHome and select retailers, including Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, and Target.

I own it and I managed to test it. It is a very good stuff (after all I bought it) but has some performance issues in below zero degrees. Wind - no issues, rain - not really a problem. But freezing temperatures distort the sound. Nonetheless, I recommend.
Cheers,
Robert
