Day 7

The holiday vibe at the Post house has shifted from Christmas-at-Easter to Fourth of July. The family had a long weekend to try to trip up their HomePlug toys, and it all crescendoed like a big fireworks finale. "Yesterday, we had everything running at once," says Kevin. "Denise vacuumed, we turned on all the dimmers in the house - we even had a hair dryer going. And the speakers still worked. There was a little of the popping that I had the first time, though. Meanwhile, the video worked fine - no interference at all, even though the camera was plugged into the same circuit as the speakers." Of course, Hoboken was still dark at press time, but what can you do?

Of the technology, Kevin says, "I was pretty impressed." His ideal HomePlug scenario would be one where "I can choose at a moment's notice what video signal I want to go where - and I wouldn't have to run new cable around to do that. Just plug them in, and they go." And supposedly, that's coming.

As for the entire experience, "I really like troubleshooting," Kevin says. "I do that in my work. And doing this with my family was fun too, because it kind of helped me spread my hobby out - usually it's something that separates me from them."

What about suffering an invasion from a crew of S&V editors, writers, photographers, and art directors? "Considering that you guys are all artists, you're pretty normal."

Oh, Kevin - if you only knew the truth, you'd really be shocked.
