Holiday CE Sales Growth Slowing

Consumer electronics products saw a six percent sales increase during the week after Thanksgiving. Why isn't this good news for the industry? Because it marks the first time growth has been measured in mere single digits since NPD started tracking data six years ago. In contrast, 2006 saw a 12 percent hike in dollar volume, and in 2005 it was 15 percent.

In that respect, CE sales are behaving about the same as the overall economy. The nationwide increase of 4 percent expected by the National Retail Federation is the slowest since 2002, then at 1.3 percent.

ShopperTrak expects a sales increase of 3.6 percent, following 4.8 percent last year. ShopperTrak says consumer visits to stores will drop 2.5 percent.

Even so, according to TWICE, consumers have good reason to spend money on things like LCD TVs. With an average selling price of $642, their sales are up 79 percent.
