Imagine watching a TV show, then - as the closing credits start to roll - you roll up the TV screen and tuck it in your pocket. Yup: Roll it up.

Sony and researchers from the German company Max Planck Institute have revealed a new OLED screen that is ultra-thin and flexible. Its organic molecules are contained in a transparent material, and since the molecules emit light in all directions, the screen can be viewed from every angle, including the back. Another interesting benefit is its low energy requirements, so it can be used with a battery and it will last for quite a while.

What could it be used for?

The possibilities are fascinating. Creative advertising, wearable screens, customized coffee cups, and even animated cereal boxes. Come on - who didn't spend time every morning reading the cereal box when you were a kid?

The screen sizes can range from small to big (though Sony still only has an 11-inch OLED on the market) and will be relatively easy to produce. 

Hmm, I wonder if they could be used for a heads-up windshield? Where else do you think it would be cool?
