EMI has bad news for indie record stores

If you want the latest albums from bands on EMI, you should stay away from indie record stores. The music giant has decided that it will no longer be selling albums to smaller stores, only massive big-block operations. Wal-Mart and Best Buy will have EMI albums, but you're out of luck if you prefer to walk down Bleecker Street for your music.

According to ZeroPaid, the recording company has begun notifying independent record dealers via phone that they will no longer be able to purchase CDs from EMI's catalog. This is a bad blow for indie record stores, and a puzzling move by EMI because of the intentional loss of so many small-business channels.
