Elite Intros ISF-Certified Light-Rejecting Screen

Elite Prime Vision (PV), the custom install division of Elite Screens, has announced a new flagship projection screen that it says represents the “pinnacle of ambient light rejecting screen technology.”

The DarkStar eFinity screen is a near-edge-free design that uses a retro-reflective, micro-structured optical filter said to reject up to 95 percent of in-room ambient light. “The result is in an ISF-certified color balance, the deepest possible black levels, an astonishing degree of detail and clarity in a full 180 degree viewing angle,” according to Elite. “Its near unity 0.9 gain characteristic means it can be used with a wide array of home theater projectors.”

The screen is comprised of material that wraps around a 0.3-inch thick aluminum frame and is bordered by a 0.3-inch black bezel to create an “edge free” look. The material has a durable surface coating to diffuse light and eliminate hot-spotting, glare, and or other visual artifacts associated with high gain screens.

From a microscopic perspective, the DarkStar eFinity screen has a complex structure that enhances brightness and filters ambient light while providing a 6:1 contrast ratio. Direct light is reflected back toward its source while ambient light is absorbed. “This combination of retro-reflective filters and neutral black contrast layers create an image where ‘black-level’ details are easily seen without compromising the color balance,” Elite said.

“ISF works with the majority of projector manufacturers to deliver factory presets that are close to calibrated,” said Joel Silver, president of the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF). “Matching that preset with an ISF-certified screen provides the best option for those who do not have a calibrator on site during installation. Many thanks to Elite Screens for delivering ISF-certified screens with accurate color."

The screen comes with an remote controllable LED backlighting kit with variable settings that can be used to create mood lighting when the screen is not in use. Prices start at $3,998 and the DarkStar eFinity is available in 108- and 124-inch sizes with a 16:9 aspect ratio and 158 inches in a 2.40:1 format. Elite offers a limited lifetime warranty.
