DVD Player Does Dual Widescreens

Axion says it's shipping the company's latest portable DVD system. Designed primarily for use in the car, although it comes with both AC and DC adaptors, the new AXN-6079 includes a small DVD player and two seven-inch widescreen LCD screens.

Axion suggests that the DVD player can be placed on a car's center console or under a seat. Mounting straps allow each of the seven-inch LCDs to be attached to the back of the front seats' headrests for easy viewing of mindless kids' movies that are bound to mesmerize noisy, out-of-control-unless-continually-entertained back-seat passengers.

The system includes a carry bag and a credit-card-style remote control in addition to stereo speakers and dual dedicated headphone jacks. The two screens can be used to watch the same movie simultaneously, or one screen can display the movie while the other screen is used for games or some other source of audio-visual entertainment.

A 181 cable-ready/UHF/VHF TV tuner and a proprietary "classic arcade gaming joystick" are optional accessories.

All of this portable entertainment can be had for $229 - or, if you want to think of it this way, only $115 per screen (with a free DVD player), which is one heck of a deal if you have two or more kids screaming and yelling in the back seat. (No more, "I want to hold the DVD player!"; or "I can't see the screen!"; or "He always gets to watch what he wants!" Ooh, and those headphone jacks - now that's a great idea! And...well, you can probably tell I've spent a little too much time in the car riding with an under-five-years-old crew...)
