DVD Discs Sell Over One Million in a Single Week

The most successful consumer-electronics format of all time has hit a new record for software sales. Well over one million of the silver discs were sold in the week ending Sunday, December 19, the Hollywood Reporter noted on December 22.

That week's total, 1,274,497 units, by far exceeded the previous one-week record of 955,351, set only the week before.

The Matrix topped the sales charts, and the recently released The General's Daughter was the most popular rental. Other extremely popular titles are The Mummy, Saving Private Ryan, and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, all of which were 1999 releases.
