I gotta say, they sound pretty amazing. In fact, let's discuss the sound for a minute. I suppose I should break it down to the highs and lows, but I know what I like when I hear it, and I can really feel the bass in my body whenever I use them. (I mean, come on if rap producer extraordinaire Dr. Dre had a hand in their design; what did you expect?)

To test them, I tried a variety of songs. First I listened to Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind". The bass was pulsating but not overpowering. Then I tried Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama". Classic crunch. Next, Metallica's "Enter Sandman". More kick-ass bass. Then Paul McCartney's "Dance Tonight". The sharpness of the mandolin at the beginning was right on. I continued to spin through songs on my iPod when I landed on Michael Jackson's "Thriller." At the beginning of the song, a door opens and footsteps move from right to left. The sequence was quite crisp. With the world shut out, it really took me back to my days with the Koss headphones.

Over the years, I've found that music is a matter of taste. Everyone hears things differently, so you should give the Dres a test spin before you buy them. That said, I don't think you'll be disappointed. My younger son has also been using them, and he hit me with the perfect closing line. He said, "If sound was in HD, this is what it would sound like." I couldn't have put it any better.
