Cutting (most of) the cords

Seems like everybody's trying to cut down on your desktop clutter these days, paring down the collection of cables it takes to run all of your gear - and introducing new standards in the process.

At Display Taiwan this week, 3M put an interesting spin on an old protocol, supplying both juice and video to a monitor via Power over Ethernet (defined under section 802.3af). Promising, though PoE isn't supported out of the box by most routers. Not that you can't take matters into your own hands.

Now if they could only make power transmission wireless...
