Criterion preparing 'Seven Samurai' Blu-ray release

SevensamuraiCriterion has confirmed its October releases, and they include one of the most famous and influential films ever made. Alongside four other movies, Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai will be seeing a Criterion Collection Blu-ray Disc release this Fall. It's roundly considered a masterpiece, and inspired the Western classic The Magnificent Seven, and pioneered many filmmaking techniques.

The release will include a 50-minute documentary on the making of Seven Samurai, along with a two hour conversation between Akira Kurosawa and fellow influential Japanese director Nagisa Oshima, two audio commentaries from Japanese film experts, a gallery of posters and production stills, and other bonuses. The entire package will be spread across three Blu-ray Discs, and retail for $50.

The other Criterion Collection releases for October include Ingmar Bergman's The Magician, Stanley Kubrick's Paths of Glory, Nobuhiko Obayashi's Hausu, and Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited. One of these films seems a bit out of place.
