Coming Soon: Buy a TV and Get Free 4K HDR Movies

Starting August 16, buyers of Samsung’s top-line SUHD TVs will receive two free high-dynamic range (HDR) movies.

Under the promotion, which is being done in conjunction with Western Digital and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, buyers of Samsung’s JS9000 ($3,500), JS9500 ($5,000), and JS9100 ($9,000) “SUHD” TVs will receive a free 1-terabyle WD My Passport Cinema hard drive ($90 value) loaded with Exodus: Gods And Kings and The Maze Runner, among the first consumer releases to feature HDR encoding for more lifelike contrast and brightness.

The hard drive will contain six other UHD movies that must be unlocked via Fox’s website for playback. The titles, none of which are HDR-ready, are: X-Men: Days of the Future Past, The Wolverine, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Fault in Our Stars, Let’s Be Cops, and The Other Woman. Additional UHD movies can be downloaded to the drive via M-Go and other retailers that support the studio-backed Vidity content delivery platform.

The promotion will end June 30, 2016.
