CES 2009: Totem Wind speaker gets a small upgrade and big color

It's hard to find bright colors in large home theater speakers. You can get black speakers, certainly. Wood finishes are always readily available. Sometimes you can even find silver or white speakers. But bright colors are pretty darn difficult to come by.

Totem is injecting a splash of color into its Wind standing loudspeakers with the Wind Designer Series. In addition to the typical black and wood finishes the original Wind speakers offered, the Designer Series also comes in bright blue ("Wind Water") and bright red ("Wind Fire") versions. The bright colors are hand-laquered in Canada, where the speakers themselves are built, and are a bold choice for any sound system.

The Design Series are more than just color, though. While they have the same basic design and use the same drivers are the original Wind speakers, the Design Series speakers feature a new decoupling, new crossover, and a new, brace. These improvements translate into a new price tag for the speakers; at $12,500 per pair, they're over two grand more than their predecessors.
