CES 2009: Day three - Hitachi Web Cam TV

This year, a lot of TV manufacturers demonstrated how they are integrating the Internet into their sets. Whether the Web is used for checking the weather, news or sports scores, or streaming You Tube or Netflix videos, once your TV is Web-enabled there is almost no limit to what it can do. One of the best uses of this technology that I ran across was a terrific WebCam integration displayed by Hitachi. Many families and friends use WebCams to stay in touch, but that often means huddling around a desktop or laptop computer in a back room and then staring at a grainy 4x4-inch image. If systems like Hitachi’s catch on, you can enjoy video chats on your primary display in the comfort of your living room. Check out the video to see the system in action.—John Sciacca
