Back to (High) School (Musical)

Quick, it's half past 7 p.m., Eastern time. You have only 30 minutes to LOCK UP YOUR DAUGHTERS.

What I mean is, the Disney Channel premiere of High School Musical 2 begins at 8 o'clock. And by then, your tweenettes (and possibly your slightly older daughters) (and possibly your similarly aged sons, too) should be camped out in your home theater, armed with chips and dip and soda and plenty of their tweenette friends.

What the hell (um, heck) am I talking about? C'mon, get with the program - a Disney Channel program that, since its first incarnation as a 2-hour TV movie in January 2006, has spawned a High School Musical empire of CDs, DVDs, and more. The soundtrack to HSM1 has sold more than 4 million copies in the U.S. (It was the biggest-selling CD last year.) And the soundtrack to HSM2 was released Tuesday, three days before tonight's premiere.

So, while your kids are commandeering the home theater, find something else to do - like reading my Phoebe Cates post below!
