The Avengers Assemble on Blu-ray

Yesterday, a rep from Disney came to the S+V offices to show me some of the coolest interactive features that will be on the Blu-ray edition of The Avengers, which comes out on September 25. I would love to get into the specifics of the inner workings of what I saw and what I swiped but was told that if I did so, "Hulk smash" would be the last words I would ever hear. Suffice it to say that I am able to confirm that one of the biggest movies of all time delivers the kind of in-depth bonus features that discerning A/Vophiles like you and me live for — extensive commentary from the cast and director Joss Whedon and behind-the-scenes looks at the visual effects, cinematography, and the creation of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Helicarrier among them.

Meanwhile, elements for The Avengers Initiative: A Marvel Second Screen App will become available bi-weekly in July and August and weekly in September, including access to the S.H.I.E.L.D. database, becoming a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, invitations to special missions either remotely or in the field, links to character profiles, stories, and scenes, and interactive Marvel digital reader comic books (for starters).

In the meantime, Disney has made a clip available and said we can show it here, so assemble accordingly, fine citizens, and enjoy.
