AT&T U-Verse to get Xbox 360 set-top box support

Xbox360

First, the Playstation 3 had Blu-ray Disc support. Then, the Xbox 360 had Netflix Watch Instantly streaming. Then, the PS3 and Wii got Netflix support. Now, the game console home theater arms race has reached another level, as the Xbox 360 will soon be able to replace your cable box, if your cable provider is AT&T.

Starting November 7, AT&T U-Verse customers will be able to use their Xbox 360 as their set-top box. There's one major caveat, though: users will still need at least one AT&T-provided U-Verse set-top box hooked up to another TV in their house. That's a pretty big requirement, and it will prevent the Xbox 360 from completely replacing a cable box. It'll work as a secondary set-top box for other TVs, but AT&T's own box will still have to be there. It's a start, though. Maybe some day my PS3 will be able to take the responsibilities of my Time Warner Cable box.
