AirTV Adds Local Channels to Sling TV

Dish and Sling TV showed off the AirTV, the newest device that will make it easier to cut the cord on cable or satellite. AirTV streams from Sling TV, as well as over the air local channels, and from other streaming services and can stream in 4K.

The AirTV is an Android TV device that can receive local broadcast channels with the use of a connected adapter and antenna. The streaming device is Sling TV optimized. That is, its home screen is similar to that of the Sling TV app with the addition of local channel’s programming and titles from Netflix.

Both Netflix and YouTube are pre-installed on the AirTV Because it uses the Android TV operating system, users can choose to add more apps from the hundreds available in the Google play store.

It comes with a Bluetooth remote control that includes dedicated buttons for Sling TV, Netflix and Google. The local TV antenna adapter is available as part of a bundle or sold separately. The AirTV player is alone for $99, or bundled with the adapter for $129. Initally, it will come with a $50 Sling TV gift card. The adapter can be purchased separately for $40.

If, like me, an indoor antenna won’t bring in all of your local channels, Dish is utilizing its network of installers to offer the AirTV Pro Install. Go to AirTV.net for details and availability in your area.
